Walk With Rafizah: A Morning at Stadium Merdeka
▶️Date: Saturday, 10 May 2025
▶️Meeting Point: In front of Stadium Merdeka
▶️Time: 8:00 AM
For the fifth walk of 2025, we’re taking our walk to one of the most historic locations in Malaysia—Stadium Merdeka.
This stadium isn’t just a sports venue. It’s where the late Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman declared Malaya’s independence on 31 August 1957, and where our first Merdeka celebration was held. Over the decades, it has hosted SEA Games, iconic concerts, and countless events that shaped our national memory.
Let’s come dressed in Jalur Gemilang colours—red, white, blue, or yellow—to celebrate that spirit.
What to expect:
▶️ We’ll do 10 laps on the track (about 4km)
▶️Runners are welcome to go at their own pace
▶️I’ll lead a brisk walking group using the 7-3-2 method: 7 minutes brisk walk, 3 minutes recovery walk, repeat twice; short break; and then we repeat til we complete 10 laps.
After the walk we’ll head to Luck Bros Kopi at Petaling Street for breakfast to marvel at Merdeka 118 (Geddit? Geddit?!!). I am open to other suggestions too—happy to explore nearby options.
No registration or payment needed. Just show up. Do remember to bring your IC for stadium registration.
Getting there via public transport:
▶️Maharajalela Monorail
▶️LRT (Ampang or Sri Petaling Line) to Plaza Rakyat, then walk or take a short ride to Merdeka MRT Station
▶️Stadium Merdeka is about a 10-minute walk from Merdeka MRT (I am taking this).
These monthly walks are a chance to reconnect—with the city, with history, and with each other. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, come walk, chat, and reflect with us.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
